I came to a decision!

Hey Everyone!

I thought that I decided on how and where to post my health and fitness journey, then I came to the conclusion that it needs it’s own blog. I came to that conclusion because there are a lot of things I want to be able to discuss about my journey that are way outside the scope of this particular blog, and I don’t not want to talk about it, just because of where i am posting about it.

I have linked it up top if you want to follow along with my Journey!

Road to Getting Healthy; Week 1 update

Hey Everyone!

Now that I have decided that enough is enough, and that it is time to be focusing on living a healthier lifestyle, i have set my mind to it.

I have been taking my vitamins and probiotics on a daily basis. I have definitely noticed that i have had a bit kore energy this week.

I have also been doing my research into vitamins that ate made in the US, because one of the things i am really focusing on, especially when it comes to health / wellness / hygiene products is using / taking as many products that are made in the USA. I feel like they are a bit more reputable when they are made here, as well as the fact that i am then supporting my own country’s economy.

Since I started tracking what I am eating about a week ago, it has helped me curb eating put of boredom / to pass the time, because it makes me take a second thought about whether i am hungry at all or hungry enough to take the time to enter it into the app.

My goal with trying to eat healthier on the whole, is to lose a bit of weight, though nothing crazy, and have more energy, and be sick less often.

This week i did lose 2.8 pounds from what I weighed last week, and that is just from making some dietary changes. I didn’t really do much different in terms of exercise.

I am also hoping that with time and persistence, i can get out and do more hiking, which is something I enjoy.

Smorgasbord of All the Things

Hey Everyone!

Oh my goodness! There is so much that I want to share with you all.

Online Shopping can be an amazing thing, especially for those living in more rural and remote places, to be able to have access to things that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to have, especially for those with food sensitivities. It also comes in useful for books, tools, seeds, homeschool curriculum, and so on, that one cannot get locally.

There are also quite a few drawbacks to it, and it can be a budget killer, and cause financial issues when not used responsibly. I’m talking from a city stand point, and not about things you cannot get in stores. How often, do you forget what you ordered (especially off amazon), and have it show up a few days later, and you go “oh, i forgot i ordered that”. There there is Shipping costs if you only need a couple things and then sometimes there’s “spend x amount and get free shipping”, and all you want/need is just under that threshold, so you spend more money than you need to either adding an extra item or two you don’t particularly need in order to get free shipping, or you spend the shipping costs, which is more than it would have cost you in fuel to go to the store and pick up those items yourself.

I am also still trying to get used to using Ibotta. I tried drop, and quickly stopped, since I rarely shop at the stores connected with drop. I have also found that Fetch also has some good deals, especially on brands I am familiar with and use. Just this year alone, i already have earned 5,095 points, and I haven’t even been scanning all my receipts on fetch. I am still a slow earner on Ibotta, as there are a lot of things I can’t or don’t use. I would use more of them if i had a husband and family, but for just me, there are a lot that go unused. Though there was one that i was able to use, for $2, which is a lot for me, considering most of the ones i am able to use are the small 10 to 50 cents any brand ones. The one i was able to take advantage of today, while not something i need right this second, but it isn’t perishable, and i will use it in the coming months. There was also a $2 off coupon for it on the Fred Meyer app, so in the long run, i saved $4 on this product.

I am still really learning how to be frugal, and live frugally. I am trying to eat at home as often as possible, and save eating out for a treat (especially if i can use a gift card), especially if i can get that gift card by running my normal errands, buying normal things.

Mind you, that Fetch and Ibotta aren’t the only apps that i am using. I also use the stores apps (like Safeway and Fred Meyer), that i shop at the most, to save me money on my actual purchases. The store apps and Ibotta all take a little time to go through the offers and coupons, but the time spent is definitely worth it, in order to save some money.

I finally got my tax refund this past week, so i was able to order a fitbit. I had been thinking about getting one for a while, but never got around to it. Now that I am serious about trying to live a healthier lifestyle, I figured it was time to get one. I have also been wondering, for the better part of the year and a half that I have been at my job, how many steps I take during a shift, and granted every shift is a bit different. The cool thing about having this, is that it tracks it in the app, so I can see what a truck day is like, versus a normal working freight shift, versus a down stocking day versus building new sets. If i am still at my job during the next holiday season, which i really don’t want to think about, it will be interesting to see how that compares day to day, and to the rest if the year.

The fitbit app is actually pretty cool, it also allows me to track my food, and therefore calorie consumption, water consumption, sleep, heart rate, weight, as well as keep track of my cycles. It’s a convenient way to keep track of my health stuff.

Working towards Getting Healthy

Hey Everyone!

Through most of the season I had felt under the weather and had been sick a couple times. I have also been dealing with Bell’s Palsy since the end of September.

I was hoping once the season ended, I would really start feeling better, but I have still been more tired than I should be, and overall feeling unwell, as well as still dealing with Bell’s palsy, and a couple other issues, that I am trying to get resolved.

While, on a subconscious level, I knew that I wasn’t eating as well as I should be.

I have finally gotten to the point where I have had enough, and I am willing to do what it takes to get myself healthy again.

I am still dairy free, limiting my gluten (and breads in general), watching my sugar consumption, especially trying to limit anything with added sugar, and trying to get back to clean eating. I actually enjoyed clean eating, and I didn’t realize how much i enjoyed it, and how good it was for me until more recently when I have been feeling so unwell.

While i still am going to keep this mainly about Homemaking, trying to find and come up with healthy meal ideas that fit with the dietary guidelines I am trying to work within, and make it taste good, all falls under the homemaking umbrella. Don’t worry, this is not going to be turning into a weight-loss or fitness blog.

I still want to eventually live on some acreage, have a good size garden, and raise some of my own meat (at least most of what can’t be hunted or caught, that isn’t beef).

Along with needing to eat better, I am also needing to exercise more, and spending more tome outdoors to exercise. As much as I hate to admit it, this winter has been rough.

So ready for Summer Food (WIAW)

Hey Everyone!

Well it is starting to feel like summer, which for me means that the only thing I am really looking forward to is all the fresh local fruit and berries.

For breakfast this morning I had a bowl of baked oatmeal, three brown and serve turkey breakfast sausages, and a fruit plate.

Throughout this morning I have been drinking my tea, as well as my first litre of water. I also had my ItWorks Greens in 8 oz of cran-cherry juice, and my greens chews.

As a snack this morning I had a Vans cranberry almond bar, which is pretty much like eating a gluten free dairy free nutrigrain bar.

For lunch I had a ham sandwich using franz 7 grain gluten free bread. I also had a banana and water.

This afternoon I ate a couple hot dogs, and for dinner I had some homemade vegetarian chili and a spinach salad as well as about half a litre of water.

Trying ItWorks

Hey Everyone!

I am not one to try the latest diet fads, and risk my health to find out down the road that the product is later found to be detrimental to my health. I have tried some of the BeachBody stuff (PiYo and a month’s worth of Shakeology). I enjoy PiYo, but don’t really have the space to do it at the moment. I had gotten a bag (which is a 30 day supply) of the Vegan Chocolate Shakeology. It tasted fine but a serving of it was too much for me at one time, and then I had issues with having to drink extra water (on top of my normal 1 – 2 Litres a day), to balance out the extra fiber and stuff in the Shakeology. So I really didn’t like it, or the cost.

I have come to the point where I do need some help and accountability to help get me back on track to get healthy and lose some weight. I have no desire to jump back on the road to Anorexia again. Weightwise I am back to about where I was when I graduated from college, which is not good or heathy.  I just want to live a healthier lifestyle and lose some weight while I am at it. I have tried the ItWorks greens (the berry flavor), I had 5 days worth and I didn’t see the negative side effects that I did with Shakeology, so I have decided to give it a proper try. I am starting today, and going to try the greens (berry flavor), the chews and fat fighters (when they arrive) for the next 4 months and see if I can tell a difference.

I am not going to be posting my actual weight or measurements, but over the next 4 months I am going to try to post regular updates with pictures, how many pounds I lost, if I have changed pants/clothes size (or how my current pants are fitting, as they are currently tight through the waist), and overall how I am feeling.

I am Alive

Hey Everyone!

I am sorry I have been absent from the blog from a couple of months, life just got away from me, and this past summer was crazy busy.

Beings that fall is here, I am hopefully going to be back to this blog on a more regular basis.

Since I was sick in July, and having a busy summer, clean eating has fallen off the band wagon. for some reason I quit making smoothies, and clean eating kind of went by the way side. I started eating more gluten and drinking coffee on occasion here recently, and today I intentionally had dairy. Lets just say that having dairy was a very bad idea. Having an increased amount of gluten and consuming coffee have also been not so great ideas.

Now that I know how good I can feel when I am on board with clean eating, versus the past few months where I haven’t been eating right, and put stuff that I shouldn’t have, in my body.

One of my goals over the next few months is to wean my body back down to a limited about of processed carbs (like breads and pastas), and refined sugar. I am hoping that I can get back on to a lot more quinoa, rice, oats, and other whole grains. I am also wanting to consume more nuts, fruits and vegetables. I am by no means planning on becoming Paleo, vegetarian or vegan, that has never been my goal, but rather eat a lot healthier. I know I keep saying that but it is totally true.

I also seriously need to join a gym or something, getting up at 5:30 am, then working a 10 hour day was insane, and now that it doesn’t get light until after 7 am, and is getting dark at 6:30 pm (we are still on Daylight Savings Time at present, mind you), getting outside and exercising really isn’t an option at the moment. I am going to see how things go at work since I got switched projects, and I may go back to working five eight hour days, and start at my normal time, and get off at 4, then if I get a gym membership, then I would hit the gym after getting off of work. We will see. It is so hard making time to work out, on top of work and everything else. When I was in college I could just schedule classes into my school day, and then I would just show up for class, and it would not be above and beyond my normal school day.

Sticking with Change

Hey Everyone!

Today is turning into a minimum of two cups earl gray tea kind of day. Today is my Friday and it has been a long week.

Next week I am going to be doing another 5 day clean eating challenge which I definite need.

I am wanting to get into shape before a friend of mine gets married. Beings that she is getting married next April I have time to loose weight and work on getting toned.

I am soing my best to commit to changing my lifestyle, because there is more I want to do with my life that involves being in much better shape than I am in now.
