Random House Projects

Hey Everyone!

This morning was totally nice, so I had gone for a walk, then when I got home I had cleaned my bathroom.

I had taken a shower afterwards, and at the end of my shower, the plastic knob thing that controls turning on and off the water, as well as adjusts the water temperature, broke, to the point it couldn’t be repaired.

I had run to the store and bought the universal one they had for showers. I got it home, and found out it was too long for my shower. So I spent some time trying to get it to fit. I finally ended up jerryrigging it, and making it work by turning it upside down. I finally got it to work, for the time being. I didn’t take it back and return it, because my car is having issues and I just didn’t want to take the time to take it back.

It may not be pretty or look normal, but hey, it works.

Girls can do home improvement projects too. Even when things don’t go the way you want it to, or as planned, you can still make it work.

WIAWS: Blackberry Meringue

Hey Everyone!

The past couple of days I have had Blackberry Meringue wax warming in my country light Scentsy Warmer. Blackberry Meringue was one of the new scents that was released for the spring/summer 2016 catalog, and was not brought back this year. I had stocked up on some last year, so I still have several bars going into this spring and summer.

This scent was one of the few that I liked from the spring/summer 2016 catalog. It is definitely a light, sweet, fruit tart kind of scent. While it is sweet, it’s not overwhelmingly sweet. To me, it is a perfect scent to be warming this time of year, especially in a kitchen, or living room.

This past winter, and now into spring, has been so wet and grey here in Portland. Yesterday was such a beautiful day, and it got up into the low 60’s, and was partially sunny, which helped me a lot, and made me want to have a spring scent warming, to help be a mood lifter.

What smells I like to have warming, are definitely related to the weather/season. When it is cold and wet outside I would just as soon have something like Pumpkin Roll or Apple S’mores warming, or if it is around Christmas, then I’d have one of the Christmas Scents warming. When it is warm and sunny, I love having the lighter, fresh, clean scents going. I do have to say that Blackberry Meringue is one of my top 3 spring/summer scents when I want something lighter warming in my warmer.

Baking Day

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday, I had decided to do some baking. I was wanting something sweet, but didn’t have chocolate chips, so I mixed up a batch of gluten free & dairy free Oatmeal Raisin cookies.

I had also mixed up, and baked a loaf of gluten free & dairy free rustic flat bread to go with dinner, beings that we still have split pea soup.

I know cookies and breads are not the best, when it comes to watching what I eat, but when it still feels like late February outside, and has the rain to go with it, baked goods are comfort foods.

Both the cookies and the rustic flat bread turned out really well.

Looking for a New Home

Hey Everyone!

The time has come for me to really be looking at leaving Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest, in search of a career and home of my own.

Portland has been a good place to learn how to live a dairy free & gluten free life, as well and wanting to live a better life, and adhering to a clean eating lifestyle, that includes a lot more outdoor time.

My passion is for history (especially 1800 – about 1900 in the western US, as well as the 1950’s in American History), literature, homemaking, growing my own food, preserving food, knitting, and living a simpler lifestyle.

Portland can no longer meet my needs, or provide me a job, so it is time to move on, and expand my horizons and learn how other live, in a different part of the country.

Even though this blog won’t always be Simple Homemaking in the PNW, it will always Simple Homemaking, written by me, wherever I am living. I love writing my homemaking blog, and sharing my successes in clean eating, dairy free & gluten free food, gardening, and preserving food for winter. None of what I normally write about here will change, just where I am doing it, and what else I am doing in addition to what I have already been doing. There is so much more I want to do with this blog, and share, such as decorating, how I decorate myself, home organization, having a home library, as well as possibly having a craft room.

WIAWS: Pumpkin Roll

Hey Everyone!

The past few days I have been in an Autumn & Autumn scents mood, even though yesterday was the warmest day we have had in months, right around 70 degrees.

Autumn is my absolute favorite season. Despite yesterday being above average, this past winter and early spring has been cold and wet.

I know spring just started, yet I am already ready for autumn to be here. I know it can’t be October all year round, but if it could be, I would be a happy camper.

Pumpkin Roll is my favorite autumn scent from Scentsy. All the others are typically too strong and have too much cinnamon or just isn’t something I like smelling.

Baking Cinnamon Rolls

Hey Everyone!

Today, I really didn’t do a whole lot. I went for a walk, and got rained on, but it wasn’t bad.

I also made a batch of cinnamon rolls this afternoon, because I felt like baking. The recipe I use is out of the gluten free baking book I have, I also make everything dairy free as well because I can’t do dairy, period. So I had used almond coconut milk instead of regular milk and earth balance spread instead of butter or other margarines that have dairy in them.

WIAWS: Coffee Tree

Hey Everyone!

This week I have been warming Coffee Tree. It I was one of the January Bring Back My Bar scents that I had ordered.

I have definitely been in more of a mood for the coffee shop type scents, while I have been working on my knitting.

The coffee scents are definitely year round scents. To me they are inviting and welcoming, and add to the hang out kind of ambiance, which is totally something I go for.

Until next week all.
