Christmas!

Hey Everyone!

Merry Christmas (it is still Christmas here on the West Coast) and Happy Boxing Day to all of those for whom Boxing Day is a holiday! I get Boxing Day off this year, beings that Christmas fell on a Sunday.

As 2017 quickly approaches I have been setting goals that I hope to maintain. One of which is to actually eat healthier, stick to a clean eating, dairy free, gluten Free, egg free diet while eating more fish and white meat. A lot of that has to do with my food sensitivities.

I am definitely needing to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, nuts, gluten Free whole grains and fish into my diet. I am by no means going vegan, as I like to eat chicken and fish, as well as honey. I seriously need to do more research on how the First Nations people of this area ate. Beings that waterways and rain and plentiful in this area, in this part of the state they were more settled / less nomadic as the food supply was consistent and there was always something around to eat.

I have been working on preparing for when I am able to have my own place, and am able to do more actual homemaking. Homemaking and urban homesteading are two things I am passionate about, and want to live, and share. Living a more natural, healthy life while not completely shunning modern society is my goal.

Technology Free Evenings

Hey Everyone!

For the last several months I had issues with waking up tired in the morning, even when I got 7 – 8 hours of sleep. Part of that is the days getting shorter, but then I got thinking that maybe the problem could be related to be using my computer and phone right up until I got to bed each night.

I have heard and read about technology messing with our circadian rhythms, which controls our sleep / wake schedules. I am no expert or even a scientist but just from my own experience, there is truth behind these studies.

This week I have been trying to be off my computer by 8 pm, and only use my phone for the white noise app after 8 pm. After 8, I have been reading a book until I go to bed, and the couple of nights I have been doing this, it has been easier to get up in the morning.

This winter, my allergies have also been worse than in years past, and I picked up some of the allergy meds that work for me, and that has also been helping.

Between readingbto help me wind down in the evening and dealing with my allergies has definitely helped me be able to function and feeling better.

I have missed spending time with my nose in a book, and I am glad I am spending less time wasting my time on computer games and more times reading books. I am currently rereading Outlander (The first book of the Outlander Series), before moving on to the second book.

Weaning Off Computer Games and TV Apps

Hey Everyone!

Recently I came to the conclusion that for me personally, computer games and maintaining a Netflix and Hulu Plus account are just a waste of time and money, when I would be better spending my free time reading books, and restricting the amount of time I spend watching TV or movies to when it is too cold to be outside or I am working on a knitting project. This also goes for watching YouTube, there was a time when I used to watch at least 6 vlogs a day, if not more. Now the only youtubers I watch every single video they upload are: The Chick’s Life and Dudelikehella’s LiveEachDay. The Chick’s Life is no longer Daily (except during the month of December), and LiveEachDay vlogs are really no more than 15 or so minutes per video, so as it is, that is only about 30 minutes on any given day.

I stopped watching Cullen and Katie months ago (before Brooks was born), and now I only watch Ellie and Jared, DailyBumps, and the SacconeJoly’s on a rare occasion. A while back I stopped watching BZVlogs just because watching so many Vlogs became too much. I still will go watch occasionally to see what is going on, but not often.

I would rather go make my own memories and share them through pictures and blogs, or making an occasional video. I don’t really have anything against Daily Vloggers, I am just at a point in my life where my priorities are on making my own memories, and investing in my own life, and the lives of the friends I have in real life.

As I am writing this, I am trying to make goals for myself, for things I want to achieve and be able to write blog posts that generally can stand alone in terms of content but are all part of the main theme of my blog – keeping the blog posted related but not dependent on any other blog post.

Ok, getting back on track from that tangent the main point I am trying to make is that I am trying to get back to a simpler way of life where Technology does not control and run my life. I really want to live more in the moment and enjoy the life I have instead of being obsessed with capturing every minute of every day, or wasting my time on activities that are not productive.

Limiting Technology usage

Hey Everyone!

I am in the process of trying to spend less time, especially in the evenings, glued to technology, and spend more time doing things like reading books and being outside, or out engaged in the world around me and with other people. As it is, I am glued to a computer 40 hours a week, and can think of better ways than being glued to my computer from the time I get off work until I go to bed. There has to be studies on how too much tech affects our brains, and our sleep cycles. I miss the days when I was younger spending my evenings reading a book and listening to music, and I have plenty of books to read. I am not giving up tech all together, as I enjoy watching tv while I knit, but my goal is to spend more time with people in real life and reading books (not doing these at the same time though.

I have started re-reading Outlander before I continue on reading the series, and then reading the Game of Thrones Series. I generally enjoy reading the books before watching the movies/tv shows. I have seen the first season of Outlander, and have not watched any of Game of Thrones. I will watch the shows after I read the books.

I don’t know if it is just the fact that winter and the darkness / shorter days seemed to hit so fast this year or the fact I have been on my computer more that I have been more fatigued and drained of energy this winter than I ever have in the past. I really have never had a problem adjusting to the shorter days until this year, so I am trying to kick how much time I spend on my computer after work in days that I work, and spend more time reading and sleeping, and seeing. About full spectrum light bulbs and getting myself back to my normal happy self.

Technology overload is a definite issue in our culture today, and I am all about limiting that negative impact in favor of a more natural / old school / historical approach to life.

So with that, I am going to say good night and read for a bit.

November Scentsy & Perfectly Posh additions

Hey Everyone!

This past week, my Scentsy and Perfectly Posh orders were delivered.

This month from Scentsy, I had ordered a Morning Sunrise Nightlight, which is simple and beautiful, as well as three bars of Lavender and White Balsam, which smells amazing. Lavender and White Balsam is definitely a very wintery scent that is not super overpowering or strong which I like. I had pulled the Morning Subrise warmer out of the box and put it together and turned it on long enough to see what it looked like on, and I love it. It will be perfect in a hallway or bathroom at night, it is bright enough to light the way and see what you are doing without being too bright. I also really like the design. While I am a consultant, I am a customer first and foremost. I won’t buy a warmer unless I like it, and even then, I have to really like it since I have had a year to be building my warmer stash up. I am also picky about fragrances.

One thing I have learned about being a consultant, that I am glad I am learning now, when I am still new and have a small customer base it to have stock on hand, especially new/seasonal scents. As well as learning what my loyal local customers like, and keep some bars of each on hand. I got into Scentsy because I have always liked candles and the glade wall plug ins, but wanted something that was less of a fire hazard, non – aerosol, and made out of better ingredients and better scents.

This month I also ordered some perfectly posh products. I had ordered 3 fall out girl chunks, 2 gender Bender chunks, 1 rolling in the deep chunk,  2 dressed to chill big fat yummy hand cremes, 3 Orange cara mellow caffeinated lip balms, a pack of Blissed Out scrub samples and a pack of Vitamin Sea shampoo and Off Shore Restore conditioner samples. I am working on building up my stash of samples for customers and potential customers to try the products and see what they think of it. One thing I found out that I am bummed about is that the Blissed out scrub has non fat dry milk in it, which means I won’t be using it as I avoid touching anything with dairy in it, and if I have to handle dairy I wash my hands like a crazy person so I don’t absent-mindedly  put something in my mouth that has contaminated with dairy. I am bummed because this was one of my favorite scents – it smells like sprite or 7 up.

As many of you know, I was introduced to Perfectly Posh by a friend of mine, and decided to try the smashing good pumpkin clay mask a few months later. I was hooked. The fact that Posh prides itself on using more natural ingredients is amazing! I have noticed such a difference with my skin. Using the BFF face cleanser then following that with a mask then using the Night & Day moisturizer or Apricots Overnight to moisturize has really helped my skin.

Food Sensitivities update

Hey Everyone!

It is hard to believe that I have been dealing with my food intolerances and sensitivities for 5 years now.

In the past 5 years I have gone Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Coffee Free and most recently almost completely egg free. About the only thing with eggs in it that doesn’t seem to bother me is if they are in baked goods and mayonnaise. I also recently figured out how sensitive I am to Gluten.

I know I can’t have any dairy or coffee. Since I have come to figure out that I am also sensitive to gluten and eggs I have had to figure out how sensitive I am to these things. I am definitely not celiac. I have learned that Gluten causes inflammation and I have definitely noticed more inflammation and acne when I regularly eat gluten.
