Rimsky Korskoffee

Hey Everyone!

A couple nights ago I went out with friends and we went to this late night coffee house called Rimsky Korskoffee, which is a play on Rimsky – Korsokov, the composer.

The house itself is an old Victorian house, in the heart of the industrial SE part of Portland. It is also reportedly haunted…..

Once inside it was decorated in such a way that kinda made me feel like I was stepping into a Tim Burton movie with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter. It also had the hipstery Portland vibe mixed with creepy and old. It was interesting. Very hipstery/ artsy Portland type. If you have ever watched the first season of Girl Meets World, the episode where they are supposed to be their great grandparents in the 1930’s (ish), like that but more weird Portland-y and way creepyier. Then there was the bathroom. It was one of those things where, as a first timer my friend had told us we had to go see it, and on our own.

That is what I saw upon entering the bathroom. Yes if gave me a fright and yes I was half expecting it to reach out and try and grab me, which never happened. Such a disappointment 😜.

It was definitely one of those “only in Portland” experiences you can have. I am totally glad I went and experienced it, but don’t know if I could do it again.

The past few years I have definitely had more and more “Portlandia culture” experiences. I love getting to experience the city I grew up in, and see different sides of it than I did when I was younger. At the same time all these experiences have also made me miss small town life, as these “Portlandia Experiences” have become normal, and it reminds me that having the life I am living is fun for now, and an experience but not the lifestyle I want to maintain. I want to experience Portland with the small town person’s perspective, and be in awe.

Sometimes the Natural Option isn’t best

Hey Everyone!

Some of you may remember that I wrote a post this past week about Schmidt’s fragrance free vegan natural deodorant, I bought it and then was reading reviews on it, and saw that it had caused rashes for several people. I was totally like “I hope that doesn’t happen to me”, well first day I tried it, I developed a rash under both my arms, so I am like ok, enough of that. Moving on now.

I also bought the unscented Natived deodorant, which I will test once the rash from the Schmidt’s deodorant goes away. I will write a post on that once I try it.

If worse comes to worse, I will reluctantly go back to using the dove advanced care deodorant I had been using, even though it is full of stupid crazy chemicals I don’t like. Here’s hoping the native deodorant works for me.

I have super sensitive skin so I can’t use a lot of super scented stuff in my skin, and that is part of why I have to be super careful about what I use. That is why I don’t shave my armpits, If I do, I have crazy stuff happen. I don’t shave to be a hippie or to be natural / counter society. I still shave my legs, because that’s what society dictates that I, as a woman should do, and I am not completely comfortable with not shaving and just not caring. I don’t care about what people thing when it comes to my armpits, because they don’t have to deal with what I do when it comes to what products do to them, and shaving is worse. My armpits are one of those “until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes you have no place to judge them” situations. Though this is Portland, so who really cares anyway? Maybe I am just being “one of those dirty hippies”, that is my choice if I were.

Now, to continue on getting my body healthy from the inside out. Until next time.

Love Small Town Life

Hey Everyone!

One of the great things about Portland is that within about 2 hours any direction, you are out in the country and there is so much to do. You have Mt. Hood and the Cascades to the east, the Beach to the west, Farm/wine/Hops country to the west/south/Southwest (Central Willamette Valley and the Tualatin Valley), Mt Saint Helens to the Northeast and lots of small country towns in between.

I have had to readjust to city life over the past 6 years, but I still feel like a fish out of water here. I still knew how to get around, but the pace of life and the constant going of city life was and still is lost on me.

I spent 4 years living in the central Willamette Valley, in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much every day I miss the way of life I had there. I know of young adults who wanted and did escape the small town and exchanged that for the city life where as I would do anything I could to move back to the small town.

I Joined Scentsy!

Hey Everyone!

I have been using Scentsy products for about a year now, and fell in love with the company after receiving  my first warmer and scents. I have spent the last 5 months debating whether to become a Scentsy consultant or not, and if so, when. A couple of months ago, I decided I was going to do it, but kept putting it off due to finances, and bills that needed to be paid. I then found out that August was one of the two Transition Months, which is pretty cool, because if you become a consultant during a Transition Month, you get the testers and catalogs for both the Spring/Summer collections and the Fall/Winter collections, so as far as testers go, you are getting two for the price of one.

Also, beings that it is a Transition Month, everything on my site is 10% off, and there are many scents and warmers that will be no longer available after August 31st, so now is the time to stock up on your favorite spring/summer fragrances, and get that warmer you had your eye on that will no longer be available as of September 1st. Click Here to Shop!

I am also excited to announce that our fall and winter warmers and scents will be available September 1st!

My Favorite scent from this year’s spring and summer collection has been Blackberry Meringue, though my favorite scent in general is still Coconut Lemongrass. Coconut Lemongrass is definitely one of those clean fragrances that you can use year round, in any room of the house, especially rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc. So far my favorite fall scent is Pumpkin Roll, it’s definitely pumpkin, without being overdone on the cinnamon or the sweet. My favorite winter fragrance so far is a combination of Very Merry Cranberry and Silver Bells.

Over the past year, I have also been working on my warmer collection. For the most part, I feel like I am pretty well set, though I am still keeping my eyes open for a fall/autumn warmer that I really like as well as a cute winter/ snowman one that I like. While I may get one along the line if it is really cute, and I just have to have it, but once I get an autumn and Christmasy one I like, I will be pretty well set, warmer wise. I am really excited for this years fall/winter catalog!

Stay Tuned! My starter kit will be here this next week, and I will be doing an unboxing!

When you Find a skin care line you love

Hey Everyone!

I have finally found a line of Skin Care products that I live and actually works for me.

A few months ago I was over at my friend’s house, as her sister and I had watched her boys for a bit while she had to work. After she had come home, she and her sister were talking about Perfectly Posh, and a few months later I ordered my first perfectly posh products. Since then I have been building my  accumulation of Posh Products.

Above, I have shown all the full size items I have either bought, been given or got as a sample.

Items shown above:

•Smashing Good Pumpkin anti acne face and body clay

•BFF (Best Face Forever) Facewash

•Hairy Beast Shave Gel

•Daily Grind Snarky Bar

•It’s Da Bee’s Knees body scrub

•Love The Dark Black Sea salt body scrub

•Whole Lava Love volcanic ash face exfoliator

•Amaaazing big fat yummy hand creme

•I scream for ice cream big fat yummy hand creme

•Portlandia Skindelicious body butter

•Pout About It peppermint lip balm.

There are so few skin care products that are as natural based as posh products. I have also spent years trying to find products that actually work on my combo/oily skin and deal with drying without over drying my skin.

I have spent the last couple months dealing with my skin breaking out, and Posh totally cleared up my skin. Everyone’s experience with the products will be different, Perfectly Posh works for me, and they have a great selection of products.

If you want to order and try any of the products, feel free to order.  You can find my Friend’s Posh Site Here. She and I are also having a party going on, so if you order, be sure to select Erica’s Posh Party in the party drop down menu, and ship directly to you.

Going more Natural

Hey Everyone!

Over the course of the last few months, since I began using ItWorks and Perfectly Posh products that are naturally based, I was reminded of something I had really wanted to start doing a while back. That is to live a more natural lifestyle. That started when I had to go dairy free, and generally gluten free.

I have wanted to use naturally based products for many reasons, mostly health related so that I felt better inside and out, and reduced the chances to have a reaction to products. I still have to be careful about the products I use, and reading labels, as some “natural” products really aren’t all that natural.

Having grown up, and spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, in the part of said region that is all about recycling, composting, and is driven primarily liberal politics, at some point some of that “natural lifestyle” was bound to rub off, since I have been saturated in my whole life. Having to go Dairy Free and limit gluten, has definitely pushed my toward it that much more. I have also been trying to educate myself on how bad these man made chemicals really are for our bodies and the environment (every time you shower, brush your teeth, and so much more, you are putting chemicals down the drain then are put into the sewer or septic system and have to be dealt with, and end up in the environment). These chemicals have been connected to causing cancers and other health issues that were not around, or if they were around not as prevalent 100 year ago as they are today.

For the past year or two, I have been using a laundry soap that I mix up myself (it is one of those DIY laundry soaps I found on Pinterest), it uses Borax, Fels Naphtha, and Arm & Hammer super washing soda. Ever since I was little, I (or my parents) had to be super careful with what they used to wash my clothes, as I have broken out in hives with several different brands of laundry detergents, and I can’t use anything that is super strongly scented or I break out.

As for other cleaning products, I like Mrs. Meyers Clean Day and Seventh Generation cleaning products. I am not adverse to keeping some lysol around the house for tough situations or to give the house a good thorough cleaning (especially after having had a cold or something), but for normal day to day, I prefer the natural products, that for the day to day cleaning are just as good and won’t put too many crazy chemicals on or in my body.

While I am well on my way to living a more natural lifestyle, there are many things I am not going to give up, like personal hygiene aka brushing my teeth, showering, using deodorant, doing laundry regularly etc. I am still a firm believer in all of that, I am just choosing to use more natural ways for doing them that are better for me and the environment.

Perfectly Posh and Scentsy

Hey Everyone!

As many of you know I am an ItWorks distributor, which I love. Over the past year I have found two more Direct Sales companies that I also love and purchase products from regularly. About a year ago I found Scentsy which I fell in love with. A few months ago I found Perfectly Posh, because a friend of mine sells it.

I have my business that I love, and products that I love. I also love when I find other products that I love just as much and being able to help and support my friends.

I found that Perfectly Posh has a body butter called Portlandia, and it smells a little like roses and being outside, which is totally part of what Portland is known for. Portland is one of the few places you can go hiking in the winter where there is no snow in the ground and isn’t completely brown. I became a fan of Scentsy because the bars make the house smell amazing.

I also love that there is a body butter named after my city, that is natural and hand crafted and is also available company wide.

I am all for supporting the small, local businesses and people who are independent distributors for companies that have amazing products that are along the lines of things that I support.

I am from the generation and region that is seeing the negative side effects of seeing what all the chemicals that have been put in our cleaners, beauty products and food are causing.

Growing up, especially in my teenage years I knew natural options were out there, but I didn’t want any part of it, as they were considered counter culture and counter to how I was being raised and contrary to what I should want. The natural products were only something the “dirty hippies” and those who wanted to live alternative lifestyles wanted, and I was supposed to be a “good girl” who wanted “normal” products. As I got older, and went to College, and experienced adverse reactions to the mainstream man-made chemical products, to where, I began looking for natural alternatives that still get me just as clean if not more so.
